The good news is that THC vapes are legal in all of Colorado, Aspen included.  All the way back in 2012, the Centennial State legalized adult-use cannabis, and vapes fall under the category of products that are totally legal to buy, sell, and possess.  Both THC vape cartridges and disposables can be legally purchased and sold, without limitations when it comes to things like concentration, strain, or the type of extract.

In Aspen, both medical and recreational cannabis are legal, but specific regulations govern their use, sale, and possession:

  1. Age Requirement: You must be at least 21 years old to purchase, possess, or consume recreational cannabis.  Medical marijuana patients need a valid medical marijuana registry identification card from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
  2. Possession Limits: Adults 21 and older can possess up to 1 ounce of retail marijuana.  Medical marijuana patients can possess up to 2 ounces of medical marijuana.
  3. Purchasing Limits: Adults 21 and older can purchase up to 1 ounce of retail marijuana in a single transaction. Medical marijuana patients can purchase up to 2 ounces of medical marijuana in a single transaction.
  4. Public Consumption: It is illegal to consume cannabis in public places, including streets, parks, sidewalks, and common areas of buildings.  Consumption is allowed in private residences if permitted by the property owner and in licensed marijuana hospitality businesses.
  5. Home Cultivation: Residents 21 and older can grow up to 6 marijuana plants per person, with no more than 3 in the flowering stage, for personal use.  These plants must be kept in an enclosed, locked area that is not visible from outside.
  6. Driving and Cannabis: Transporting cannabis in a vehicle is permitted, but it must be in a sealed container.  It is illegal to use or consume cannabis in a motor vehicle and to drive under the influence of cannabis.  The legal limit for THC in the bloodstream while driving is 5 nanograms per milliliter.
  7. Business Regulations: Cannabis businesses in Aspen must be licensed and comply with state and local regulations.  This includes requirements for security, product testing, packaging, and labeling to ensure consumer safety.
  8. Marijuana Licensing: The City of Aspen issues licenses for both medical and recreational cannabis businesses.  Applicants must meet zoning requirements and undergo a local licensing hearing.  Licensing details and forms are available on the city’s official website: Aspen Gov

Disposables vs. Vape Carts

We want to quickly touch upon the key differences between the two types of THC vaping products: vape cartridges and disposable vapes, as this will help you figure out which one makes the most sense for your needs.

  • Disposable Vapes: Disposable vapes are all-in-one devices that contain vape oil and a fully charged battery, so that you can start vaping once you take the device out of the packaging.  They’re the more user-friendly option, and it come in various gram sizes.
  • Vape Cartridges: Vape cartridges, aka vape carts, are 510-threaded cartridges that are pre-filled with vape oil, and attach to rechargeable 510 vape pens, sold separately.  They cost less, and you can choose from more advanced hardware, including ones that feature variable voltage, etc.

What Kinds of THC Vapes are There?

There are lots of different kinds of THC vapes these days, as companies have found ways to put their own mark on both disposables and cartridges.  Let’s take a look at what you have to choose from right now.

Different Strains

Every THC strain of cannabis will bring distinctive effects and its very own flavor profile.  Right now, you can choose from more strains than ever before, as brands are enhancing their selection of choices.  We always recommend checking out the different strains out there to find which ones suit the specific goals you have in mind.

Different Extract Types

We’re seeing a lot more than your run-of-the-mill full-spectrum “dry resin” extracts these days, in favor of higher-potency terpene concentrates like live resin, live rosin, liquid diamonds, sugar, and so on.  Liquid concentrates are in high demand now, since they offer a more potent high.

Added Ingredients/Cannabinoids

A lot of THC vapes contain more than THC alone nowadays.  Keep in mind that in this case, the label should tell you what other ingredients are in the vape.  We’re seeing cannabinoid blends being a huge trend right now, which incorporate THCP, CBN, HHC, etc., for a high that’s one of a kind.  You might also come across vapes that blend THC with non-cannabis psychoactives, like amanita mushroom extract or blue lotus extract, to enhance the high you get.  Of course, make a point to look up any additional ingredients to make sure it’s in line with what you want out of your vape.

Different Sizes

You can buy vapes in a variety of sizes, from approximately 0.3 grams to 7 grams of vape oil.  While higher-volume THC vapes cost more, you’ll spend less money over time, as you don’t have to replace the actual hardware each time you get through a gram or so of vape oil.

How Do I Know I’m Getting a Quality THC Vape?

If you’re looking to score only the finest THC vapes that you can get on the Aspen market, we’re here to help.  These are the things to look for while you’re out and about shopping for a new vape cart or disposable.

Lab Reports

You should always read the third-party lab reports before buying a cannabis product.  This way, you’ll be able to verify the safety, purity, legality, and potency for yourself, while also being able to look at which cannabinoids and terpenes are dominant in the strain.

Reviews

Look over third-party reviews to recognize that the brand is popular with fans of THC vapes overall.  It might help to Google a company beforehand to make sure that they’re generally seen as a brand that’s capable of meeting customer demands.

Vendor/Retailer Reputation

Consider the vendor itself, as some types of vendors really aren’t ideal, like gas stations and the like.  Reputation really does matter, and so, consider going with a licensed dispensary or an online store that strictly carries cannabis.  We’re going to dive into this more in the next section.

Strain Selection

Look for a company that carries multiple top-shelf THC strains, and keep an eye out for strains that are in line with your personal preferences.  It’s not required that a company offer tons of different strains, but it’s always a good sign when a brand is sticking to only top-tier cultivars that connoisseurs gravitate toward.

Purity

Never buy vaping products that contain additives/fillers like MCT oil, PG, VG, or vitamin E, with the latter being known to cause illness when inhaled.  These ingredients simply do not belong in THC vapes, as they do not do anything beneficial except dilute the formula.

Why Dispensaries are Always Your Best Bet

If you’re looking to go shopping for THC vapes in Aspen, a dispensary is always your best bet, rather than a convenience store, smoke shop, or other retailer who carries more than just cannabis.  Here’s why dispensaries are always the way to go.

  • They’ve Acquired the Proper Licensing: Only dispensaries are fully licensed by the state to carry products containing more than 0.3% delta 9 THC, and this means that they’ve undergone a lot of effort to get approval, generally showing that their THC products are totally legit.
  • They Have the Best Products: Dispensaries can’t operate for long if they’re not carrying excellent product.  Licensed dispensaries will have higher quality standards, better strains, more reliable vaping hardware, and brands that are extremely sought-after on the marketplace.
  • Their Selections are Broader: Dispensaries will have much larger selections of THC vapes to choose from, so that there’s something for everyone.
  • They Offer Deals and Promotions: Many dispensaries offer deals and promotions to help customers save money while they shop.
