Yes, THC vapes are totally legal in the state of Denver!  The Centennial State passed their cannabis laws years ago to legalize recreational weed back in 2012, and that included the legalization of THC vapes along with all other cannabis product types.  There are no restrictions other than requiring that you’re a legal adult.  Both THC vape cartridges and disposables are totally legal, and there are no limits when it comes to things like concentration, strain, or extract type.

Now, in Denver, cannabis is legal for both medical and recreational use, with several regulations to ensure compliance and public safety:

  1. Age Requirement: You must be at least 21 years old to purchase, possess, or consume recreational cannabis.  A valid government-issued ID is required for age verification.
  2. Possession Limits: Adults 21 and older can possess up to 2 ounces of retail marijuana.  Medical marijuana patients can possess up to 2 ounces of medical marijuana.
  3. Purchasing Limits: Adults can purchase up to 1 ounce of retail marijuana, 8 grams of retail marijuana concentrate, or marijuana products containing up to 800 milligrams of THC per transaction.  Medical marijuana patients can purchase up to 2 ounces of medical marijuana or products containing up to 20,000 milligrams of THC in a single transaction.
  4. Public Consumption: It is illegal to consume cannabis in public places.  This includes streets, sidewalks, parks, and public facilities.  Consumption is permitted in private residences (if allowed by the property owner) and licensed marijuana hospitality businesses.
  5. Home Cultivation: Residents 21 and older can grow up to 6 marijuana plants, with no more than 3 in the flowering stage at any time.  However, Denver limits a home grow to a maximum of 12 plants per residence, regardless of the number of adults living there.  Plants must be kept in an enclosed, locked area that is not visible from outside.
  6. Driving and Cannabis: Transporting cannabis in a vehicle is allowed but using it inside the vehicle is illegal.  Driving under the influence of cannabis can result in a DUI, similar to alcohol.  The legal limit for THC in the bloodstream while driving is 5 nanograms per milliliter.
  7. Commercial Regulations: All cannabis businesses must be licensed and comply with strict regulations.  Denver offers various licenses for different types of cannabis businesses, including retail stores, cultivation facilities, and testing labs.
  8. Marijuana Hospitality: Consumption in marijuana hospitality businesses and retail marijuana hospitality and sales businesses is allowed, but these establishments must be licensed and follow specific regulations.
  9. Advertising Restrictions: Cannabis businesses must follow advertising guidelines to ensure public safety and compliance with local laws.
  10. Delivery Services: Home delivery of cannabis is permitted by licensed businesses, provided they adhere to all regulations and verify that deliveries are made to private residences.

Disposables vs. Vape Carts

First, let’s dive into the differences between disposable vapes and vape cartridges, for those who haven’t yet decided which one is right for them.

  • Disposable Vapes: Disposable vapes are all-in-one devices that contain vape oil and a fully charged battery, so that you can start vaping once you take the device out of the packaging.  They’re the more user-friendly option, and come in various gram sizes.
  • Vape Cartridges: Vape cartridges, aka vape carts, are 510-threaded cartridges that are pre-filled with vape oil, and attach to rechargeable 510 vape pens, sold separately.  They cost less, and you can choose from more advanced hardware, including ones that feature variable voltage, etc.

What Kinds of THC Vapes are There?

Of course, anyone who has gone shopping for a THC vape before knows that there are loads of options to choose from, each playing a unique role in the experience that you get when you take a few puffs of vapor.  Let’s look at all of the ways in which THC vapes can vary between one another, to help you figure out what it is that you want when the time comes to make a purchase.

Different Strains

Most of us have certain preferences when it comes to the actual strain of the cannabis product, since each strain can vary so much when it comes to its dominant effects and its flavor (thanks to its distinctive terpene profile).  And, these days, THC vapes come in a broader selection of strains than ever before, all while breeders are coming up with new and exciting strains that are destined to become superstars on next year’s market.

Different Extract Types

Companies are starting to get more evolved with the types of extracts that they use, switching out more traditional full-spectrum extracts for higher-potency live resin, live rosin, sauce, sugar, and more.  This is a huge advantage, as it means that each puff of vapor is going to give you higher potency so that you get more bang for your buck.

Added Ingredients/Cannabinoids

Sometimes, a THC vape will contain more than just THC in terms of its active ingredients.  And, the label will almost definitely indicate that, as it should, so you know what you’re actually partaking in.  You’ll find lots of THC vapes these days that contain additional cannabinoids, like CBN, THCP, THCB, THCV, and the like, as “cannabinoid blends” are a major trend right now.

You might also come across vapes that combine THC with non-cannabis psychoactives, like blue lotus extract, amanita extract, or another plant-derived intoxicant.  Make sure to research these ingredients before using them so you know how they’ll influence your high, and whether or not there are certain side effects to keep an eye out for.

Different Sizes

THC vapes do come in different size options, ranging from 0.3 grams to 7 grams of vape oil.  While higher-volume vapes cost more, you’ll spend less in the long run, since you don’t have to replace the hardware as frequently.

How Do I Know I’m Getting a Quality THC Vape?

So, how can you be sure you’re getting not only the vape that you want, but the highest-quality product?  Here are the things to pay attention to when you’re buying THC vape in Denver, to ensure the most satisfaction.

Lab Reports

Lab reports are of utmost importance whenever you buy a cannabis product, including a THC vape.  Read through these lab reports carefully to be sure that you’re purchasing a product that has been tested by an unbiased party for safety, purity, potency, and the proper composition of cannabinoids and terpenes.

Reviews

Check the third-party reviews to make sure that you’re getting a THC product that consumers generally approve of.  It doesn’t hurt to Google a company beforehand to make sure that they’re generally known for carrying exceptional products.

Vendor/Retailer Reputation

You should be mindful of the vendor you’re buying from as well.  Make sure that the vendor or retailer is generally favored by the community, and consider going with a licensed dispensary or an online store that specializes exclusively in cannabis.  We’re going to dive into this more in the next section.

Strain Selection

Again, seek out companies that offer high-quality strains, and, of course, THC strains that happen to align with your preferences.  It’s not required that a company offer tons of different strains, but the ones that they do offer should generally provide a good diversity of effects.

Purity

Strictly stay away from any THC vape product in Denver that contain additives/fillers like PG, VG, MCT oil, or vitamin E, the latter of which can actually be highly dangerous.  Companies should never use these ingredients in vapes, as they do not do anything beneficial except dilute the formula.

Why Dispensaries are Always Your Best Bet

Now, here’s the thing: you might find that THC vapes are popping up throughout Denver in unexpected places like gas stations, flea markets, and from people you meet on social media who sell vapes as a side hustle.  But, at the end of the day, it’s always best to go with a trusted, licensed dispensary.  Why?  Here are some reasons below.

  • They’ve Acquired the Proper Licensing: Only dispensaries are fully licensed by the state to carry products containing more than 0.3% delta 9 THC, and this means that they’ve undergone a lot of effort to get approval, generally showing that their products are totally legit.
  • They Have the Best Products: Dispensaries can’t operate for long if they’re not carrying excellent THC product.  Licensed dispensaries will have higher quality standards, better strains, more reliable vaping hardware, and brands that are extremely sought-after on the marketplace.
  • Their Selections are Broader: Dispensaries will have much larger selections of THC vapes to choose from, so that there’s something for everyone.
  • They Offer Deals and Promotions: Many dispensaries offer deals and promotions to help customers save money while they shop.
